OUR MISSION

 

The Forest City Tennis Club (FCTC), a 501(c)(3) not for profit organization, strives to increase awareness and interest, especially among the African American community, in the game of tennis by encouraging fellowship and sportsmanship among its participants. Kevin L. Strickland -

Forest City Tennis Club President

Job Title: Community Relations Supervisor, Buckeye Community Health Plan. I have been affiliated with FCTC for 20 years. Personal interests: Running, swimming and cycling. Personal goal as a board member: Increase community awareness of Forest City Tennis Club and continued success in our Adult/Junior Tennis Program.

Robert L. Render III - Executive Secretary & Chair of Fund Development Committee

Job Title:  Library Assistant with the Cleveland Public Library

Affiliation with FCTC: Over 10 years. Personal Interest Outside of Tennis: Street Club President, Precinct Committeeman, Member-Executive Committee of the Cuyahoga County Democratic Party, Member of the Fair Housing Board of the City of Cleveland, Former Officer and member of the Antioch Baptist Church Board of Trustees, Community Leader.

Paula L. Lewis - Vice President

Job Title: Presently Vice President-Member for 30 years; FCTC coach for 17 years; retired bank manager after 28 years; and now a full time employee with a non-profit community center. Personal interests: Church affiliation, tennis teams, all sports, and reading, 4.0 women's team captain for 15 years. Personal goal: to open a community center with the main focus on tennis, family and education.

Susan Burlage - Assistant Executive Secretary

Job Title: Part time Manager of family business, M & D Mower and Appliance in Oakwood Village. I have been affiliated with FCTC for approximately 3 years. Personal interests: Solon PTA, running, and thrifting. Personal goal as a board member: Support the junior tennis program while growing the organization. Exploring and developing community partnerships.

Alesia Cooper-Lowe – Secretary

Job Title: Systems Analyst for Cleveland Clinic Radiology Informatics. I have been affiliated with FCTC for approximately 9 years. Personal interests: Watching movies, watching most any sport, and traveling Personal goal as a board member: To continue to help the organization grow financially and through its members, and also to continue to develop the skills of the Junior and adult players in the program.

Tim Jones - Club Team Captain

Job Title: Truck Driver for Towne Air Freight. I have been affiliated with FCTC for approximately 27 years. Personal interests: Traveling, watching basketball, watching movies.

Personal goal as a board member: To continue to develop the skills of the junior and adult players in the program.

Joel Whitworth - Men's Team Captain

Job Title: Career Development Coordinator at the Cleveland Job Corps Center; also employed with Berea Children's Home and Family Services as a respite mentor. I have been affiliated with FCTC since 1992. Personal interests: Basketball. Personal goal as a board member: I'm always talking up this sport (tennis). It's a sport for life so I'm always encouraging people to get out and play regardless of their skill level, have fun and do their bodies a favor and get some type of workout in.

Henry Wiley - Assisant Secretary

Job: I work for the Western Reserve Water Systems. I have been affiliated with FCTC for 38 years. Personal goal: To ensure that we operate our own tennis facility. Outside of tennis I am interested in starting my own business in repairing garage doors.

Anthony Morris - Treasurer

Job Title: Manager in the Technology Audit Group at Key Bank. I have been affiliated with FCTC for approximately 10 years. Personal interests: I also play golf and watch other sports. Personal goal as a board member: Help FCTC achieve its financial goals, enhance its accounting practices and raise enough funds to build a racquet club of its own.

Kali Strickland – Women’s Team Captain

Job Title: Assistant Principal for Cleveland Municipal School system. I have been affiliated with FCTC for 30 years. Personal interests: I love to read, travel and spend time with my family. Personal goal as a board member: As Women's team captain I want to help develop positive ideals and aspirations for our youth through tennis a lifelong sport.

Al Baker - Assistant Treasurer

Job Title: Chief Technology Officer. I have been affiliated with FCTC for 12 years. Personal goal as a board member: Building a tennis facility. My interest outside of tennis is technology companies.
